Hi,
I got two APC SmartUPS boxes with 700 and 1000VA. The 700VA one is
connected to a Sun and the 1000VA one to our Digital Unix server.
Today I needed to use "xpowerchute" and found out that the 1000VA UPS on
the Digital Unix box appears in the host selection window multiple times
with garbled host-names. The 700VA UPS on the Sun/Solaris machine appears
o.k. When I select on of these list entries with garbled host names, I can
enter the password, but the Powerchute window does not show anything. The
Sun/Solaris upsd connection and control works just fine.
The same thing happens when I run "xpowerchute" on the Sun, so apparently
the _upsd on the Alpha is acting weird.
I have already tried to restart it without any good results. On one
occasion the alpha appeared with its proper host-name (among the other 2-3
garbled list entries resulting from the Alpha) and I was able to connect
to it. Most of the time, though, there are only garbled host-names in the
list.
This is all caused by _upsd on the Alpha because when I completely stop
it, only the Sun remains in the list.
Other than that, the _upsd on the Alpha seems to work flawlessly. The
daily selftest is reported in /usr/lib/powerchute/powerchute.log and the
voltage/load data is reported in /usr/lib/powerchute/powerchute.dat every
10 minutes.
The Alpha is running DU 4.0E, patch kit 2.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks // Tom
P.S: Apparently APC does not update the PowerChute software for Digital
Unix anymore. The last version is 4.2.2. There's even a newer version
for Linux which can be had for free on their web site :-(
