trapping carriage returns

hello managers

I have a script that prompts users in certain phases.
I would like to trap accidental carriage return hits, that happen during the
script execution, and then zero them out before
before the user is prompt. This way the script will not continue by mistake,
responding to the accidental carriage return in the queue.

The script is written in /bin/sh

does anybody has ideas?
