Looks like using the undocumented -l option of the switchlog
command is the answer. Switchlog transfers the AdvFS log from
one volume to another (that's what the man page says) but it can
also change its size:

switchlog -l 2048 banques 2

Getting the log back to volume 1 is done using plain switchlog.

Of course, this only works with a multivolume domain, which is my
case.

Thanks to Bryan Lavelle, Claude Scarpelli, Oisin McGuinness,
Ronny Eliahu, Keith Strange and Mikael Björn for their answers.
