who all gave me basically the same answer: LSM is not mandatory with
TruCluster. Whether it's useful or not depends on your availability
requirements. Bryan puts it this way:

No, it's not mandatory to run LSM in a TruCluster environment. Whether
you
should run LSM depends upon your data environment. Do you need the
highest
availablity of your data? If so, you need to mirror across controllers
and
LSM is the only way to do that. Mirroring on an HSZ is fine if you don't
mind the possibility of losing connection through the controller to your
data. TruCluster and LSM work hand in hand to provide high availability
of
   your data.

We'll stick with the availability features of the HSZ-controllers, and
perhaps use LSM to mirror the system disks (since they're not on a
controller providing mirroring - Jon suggested this).

Great list!

Have a nice day. With regards,

|Dear list,
|when we were planning to install Trucluster ASE earlier this year, we were
|told that LSM was mandatory. When reading the TC ASE-documentation now, LSM
|seems to be optional (not mandatory as we were told). Is this correct? and
|secondly - with Advfs on top of HSZ22-raidsets, are there any good reasons
|to go with LSM anyway? This cluster will run Oracle-based services only.
|
|Thanks for your time. With regards,
|
