Dear All,
We are facing problem in starting Sybase server(11.0.3) on HP machine (HPUX
10.20 K570 machine). Our UNIX machine is having 4 CPUS and recently we
upgraded RAM from 2GB to 3Gb. One Sybase server was allocated a total memory
(a sybase level configurable parameter) of 1.35 GB even with 2GB RAM and is
working fine till date. But we installed another Sybase server on the same
Unix machine for testing purpose. We are trying to start our test Sybase
server with 300 MB(total memory) and it is giving following error
(error message from Sybase error log)
00:99/09/28 13:59:15.35 kernel os_create_region: can't allocate 310996992
bytes
00:99/09/28 13:59:15.35 kernel kbcreate: couldn't create kernel region.
00:99/09/28 13:59:15.35 kernel kistartup: could not create shared memory
As Sybase manual says the Unix kernal parameter shmmax needs to be
increased. But this parameter was already set to 1 GB and OS being 32bit ,
it is not allowing to increase beyond 1 Gb. presently we are having 2GB swap
sapce and shmseg was configured as 512. Please let us know how to solve this
problem. Any help from Sybase DBA's is most welcome.
Regards
Nagesh
