Hi,
We are running an Available Server (AS) cluster with 2 identical 4100 Alpha
servers (DUNIX 4.0d PK 3 and Oracle 8.05). One of the servers is the primary
server and the other is the hot standby or seconday server. Both servers
have their own system and swap partition in seperate BA356 cabinets. All
data disks (Oracle) are in a Storage Works Array cabinet with dual redundent
HSZ70s.
The appropriate disk, IP and other services are configured so that, in the
event that there is a failure on the primary server, everthing flips over to
the secondary system. Special cron jobs have been set-up to copy printer,
authorization files etc. from the primary server to the secondary server on
regular intervals to minimize system administration. This all works as
expected.
Due to a Y2K botch-up we have now inherited another Oracle (7.3) application
and the plan is to put this on the secondary server (for performance
reasons). We will be configuring seperate disk and IP services for this
application. The plan is that these services will flip over to the primary
server in the event of a secondary server failure and maintain the excisting
cluster configuration/failover for the primary server.
Does anyone know of any problems / limitations that I might experience by
doing this?
Regards
Waling
