ASE service scripts - keeping them in step

I did some work on one of our ASE clusters last night. As preparation for
the work, I thought to check the ASE service start/stop scripts were
consistent on both nodes of the cluster.

It is the responsibility of our DBA's to copy the updated script to the
other node if they change it for any reason. Guess what, there were some
differences.

Has anybody implemented any kind of script to regularly check for this? My
thoughts were along the lines of:

1. Once a day a root cron job runs
2. This checks for the names of the ASE services
3. Checks for the existence of a start and stop action script
4. Does a 'sum' on these files and compares this with a 'sum' output of the
files
    on the other node(s).
5. If there are differences, mails a message to this effect to somebody
6. If they are ok, mails a confirmation saying so.

Does anybody else do anything along these lines? Does anybody have any
suggestions for a better way of doing it?

I am prepared to hack something together along these lines if nobody has any
better ideas.

Thanking you all in anticipation.

regards - Tony
