Many thanks to the many people, and especially Dr Tom Blinn, who were kind
enough to take the trouble to reply and share their information with me.
Responses were as usual, fast and accurate. Unfortunately the company email
server took a nosedive yesterday and has just returned to service, so I
couldn't summarise earlier. ;-)
Here is the main info as supplied by Tom:
>Digital UNIX V4.0D is supported and
>will continue to be supported through our "prior version support" program.
>If you want support for V4.0D, I believe you have to request it through the
>"prior version support" program, and there may be a price upgrade to get it
>instead of "current version support". Digital UNIX V4.0D will still be a
>supported version through the end of the year 2000, and that's probably not
>going to be true for Tru64 UNIX V4.0F, which will be replaced with a V4.0G
>release some time early next year, and in the normal progression of things,
>that means that 6 months later, V4.0F will no longer be supported.
Further info from COmpaq confirmed that:
>Standard support is available through 31MAY2000 and extended through
Previous Version Support.
I think it makes better sense for me to stick with 4.0D, using the PVS if
and when necessary.
Many thanks again, to all who replied.
Best Regards,
David
