I should have summarized this before, but these are the responses
I got:

DU 4.0D:
BL10 is patch kit #2
BL11 is patch kit #3
BL12 is patch kit #4, the latest release

BTW, BL stands for Build Level.

Hi Jon,
There is no relationship. You just have to know which is which. I
think the BL stands for Build Level.
The 4.0D, Bl12 kit is most recent patch kit #4.
Here's a quick table I put together:
Tru64 version PK # BL Notes
------------- ----- ----- ---------
V4.0D 1 1 sorta like 9
                 2 10
                 3 11
                 4 12 latest released
                 5 13 not released yet
V4.0E 1 1 sorta like 11
                 2 12 latest released
                 3 13 not released yet
V4.0F 1 1 sorta like 12, latest released
                 2 13 not released yet
Hope this helps.

Jonathan,
That would be patch kit 4 for 4.0d. I don't know of any publicly published
document that maps the BL numbers to patch kit numbers.

I wish they (Compaq) would either make the Baselevel number scheme public
or bury it completely. It's an internal number that indicates a particular
"snapshot" of the OS software with a given collection of patches installed.
These get transmorgrified into a cumulative Patch Kit. I think that BL12
corresponds to 4.0D patch kit 2.

If you pull the most recent patch kit from Compaq's support site for 4.0D
and install it in its entirery, you will have all the patches needed for
Oracle support.
Hope this helps,

John

Hi,
If you look at the patch notes it should actually include the build level.
They seem to have multiple definitions of a patch kit.
Build level is supposed to be used to help equate fixes applied to various
revs of TRU 64 unix (ie V4.0D, V4.0E, V4.0F).
V4.0D with Patch Kit 4 is Bld 12
V4.0E with Patch Kit 2 is Bld 12
                and so on...
Load patch kit #4 for V4.0D and you will be set.
                                                        Steve
