NetWorker 5.5 - what's the deal

Dear list,
earlier this year we were told that Compaq would no longer license Networker
(aka 'POLYCENTER Networker Save and Restore'), and we also went through a
process to convert our (freshly aquired) LMF licences into Legato enablers
etc. Our dealer told us we would have to sign a service contract with Legato
to receive new versions and support, and the price for this was pretty
stiff. As we had just bought the Compaq LMF licsenses, we were reluctant to
accept the changing terms. Now our dealer is telling us that Compaq is
continuing it's licensing relationship with Legato, and that we will get
continued support for NetWorker through Compaq (also for versions later than
5.2, which was supposed to be the last Compaq-version of NetWorker). From
what I see on the Compaq customer update page on NetWorker
(http://www.digital.com/info/CUA011/CUA011HM.HTM), "Compaq will honor all
existing NetWorker service contracts until their expiration." - but the
document mentions this in relation to the 5.2 versions of the products, so
it's unclear to me if this goes for newer versions of NetWorker also.

How can this be interpreted, and what is the 'real life' situation out
there? Are you still getting support/new versions/patches from Compaq, or
have you been 'forced' into using Legato for this?

With regards,

PS: Our dealer also told us Legato had been forced into continuing it's
relationship with Compaq since Compaq held copyright/patents on parts of the
Tru64-specific NetWorker code. Is there any truth to this?
