I have swept away an older kerberos 5 version 1.0 installation I've been
unsuccessful with installing, and am starting anew with the latest
version from MIT, 1.1. After I get the krb5kdc and kadmind daemons
running, I find I cannot access them with the kadmin program, nor with
any utility such as kinit and kpasswd. All programs except for
kadmin.local and the daemons hang, which is the same problem I was
having with version 1.0. Has anybody run into this? I do have a host
record for the machine where the database is. I'm trying to get it to
work on that one host before starting with slave setup.
With every hung program there are three messages in the kerberos log with
this text:
krb5kdc: ASN.1 identifier doesn't match expected value - while dispatching
It's the same as the problem I was having with version 1.0. Has anyone
been successful installing this package? It compiles and passes its
tests fine.
Many thanks,

(BTW, if you have a kerberos 4 database, watch out for the default
expiration date of 12/31/99. Kerberos 5 changes this default expiration
to never upon loading the database, hence one of the reasons we want to
upgrade. Our version 4 is on another machine and doesn't figure into my
version 5 problem yet, AFAIK.)
