We've got some Personal WorkStation 500au's and if the drives are idle for
awhile, they spin down and take awhile coming back up if a command is
issued.
What we've got is:
Digital Personal WorkStation 500au Console V6.9-7
built on Oct 30 1998 at 14:10:45
>>>show dev
dkb0.0.0.207.0 DKB0 TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-63 1012

dkc300.3.0.1004.0 DKC300 RZ2DC-KB DC2B
dkc400.4.0.1004.0 DKC400 RZ2DC-KB DC2B
The RZ2DC-KB is an IBM Ultrastar 9ES drive model #DDRS-39130. I've checked
their site for this drive
<
http://www.storage.ibm.com/techsup/hddtech/ddrs/ddrsjum.htm> to find the
appropriate jumper settings to eliminate the spin down. However, after
making the setting change on the drives, they still seem to spin down after
about 30 minutes of idleness. Is there either an SRM variable or a DU
setting that needs to be adjusted so that the drives won't go to sleep?
We're running DU4.0d PK4.
Thanks,
John Losey
