I have had several added responses since my first and I now know a bit
more about the problem. (But I'm still confused.)
First, it appears that there is a libstdc++ included in the gcc 2.95.1
distribution and generated library is labeled as 2.10. There is also a
libstdc++ on the GNU site and the EGCS site which is labeled
2.90.6. The two are not terribly similar.
So I guess I have libstdc++ and I will proceed from that
assumption. The significance of the 2.90.6 version is not too clear to
me, but I'm not really a C++ programmer.
Thanks to all who helped out, especially Chad Price
