Hello again !
Another summary concerning this awful full/half duplex mess (original posting
below), thanks to A.Bentley and Arno Hahma.
I tried 'lan_config -i tu0 -s 100 -x 1 -a 1 -m utp',
'ifconfig tu0 speed 200 down;ifconfig tu0 up',
setting this in the /etc/inet.local, setting ewa0_mode to FastFD;
changing cables, powering off the machine etc. pp. No effect on the
output of 'if_config tu0' => SIMPLEX, boot messages always FULL duplex.
At the end I switched back to 'set ewa0_mode auto', our 3Com Switch 3000
also works in auto negotiation mode, hoping that Adam Bentley is right:
Adam Bentley says it's just a bug in ifconfig. My own measurements of the
link performance suggest he may be right, I got about 40 MB/s transfer rates
even with a simple cp. But as far as I remember I definitely saw a "DUPLEX"
in the last field when I was trying to connect to a half duplex hub in full
duplex mode....(inspect my desperate postings at the beginning of the year).
Also somewhat disturbing are sudden spurious disconnects of the machine
for half a minute since we reconfigured the LAN. No messages, no logs, no warnings.
netstat -I tu0 reports no errors. No activities on the machine, completely
unused net. Other machines are not affected. Anyone seen this before ?
regards, Udo Grabowski

yep, I saw the same - it _always_ reports simplex.... however the switch I had
mine connected to did identify the link as fullduplex..guess it's a bug in
ifconfig.

Yes, simplex is "half duplex". May you try (as root):
"lan_config -i tu0 -s 100 -x 1 -a 1 -m utp".
You can also type "set ewa0_mode FastFD" at the SRM console
to get full duplex mode working.
