I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question.
I have been working on a system recently (Asvr4100, 4 x 5/566 processors,
2Gb memory)
The system is not traditional multiuser system but instead it runs a small
(fairly) static number of processes that receive data in over the FDDI
process it and send it out again - I think the details are irrelevant. It is
much like what many of the old PDP11 systems did years ago !!!
My question refers to the memory subsystem, it appears very under utilised.
It would seem sensible to me that the processes should increase their
resident set size to utilise the memory more fully thereby decreasing the
need for page ins or outs. Should this happen automatically or is it tunable
somehow.
If I am completely missing something could someone please explain.
Many Thanks
Kevin Jones
