People,
We are in the need to back up our network monitoring station which is a 24*7
machine. This machine is collecting information on some 5800 devices
currently.
The current configuration is system disk mirrored, data disk raid 0+1 (1+0,
can never remember the order, mirror then stripe). We have approximately
54GB of data going onto DLT7000's.
My thoughts so far pending capitol approval:
Option A:
3 way plex, split off one plex, backup and re-synch plex. This is possible
as we are currently using lsm (much easier when I had EMC's...grumble
grumble...)
Cost: more hardware, and time in re-synching 54GB of data
Option B;
Clonefset, this will probably be less on hardware, but I am unsure of the
overhead, and disk usage. I am trying to track down some good doco on
clonesets.
I understand the journaling, and dirty pages, but when we have DBMS files,
with pages which may be updated multiple times, do I need a copy for EVERY
page each time it is updated? This works fine on low I/O systems, but I am
hesitant on this system.
Any other options or suggestions welcome. I will post a summary.
Regs,
