The consensus seems to be that opening the SBB blocks will reveal
a normal SCSI drive. Of course it was pointed out that doing so
will void the storage works warranty and probably the drive MFG
warranty as well.
Since I haven't opened mine yet, one question regarding setting
the SCSI # remains..Do the RZ28's in the SBB have the same method
of using jumpers to set the #? and are the #'s marked on the board?
Since they will be used with a SCSI card, mine is an adaptec 1542
which isn't UW, but from what I've been told the drives should
still work, but maybe not as fast in the data transfer.
As luck would have it, I received a catalog today from Dirt Cheap Drives
www.dirtcheapdrives.com which had a 4 bay SCSI enclosure which has a
power supply, and a scsi-2 connector on the back for $149, the mounting
hardware is $8.00 per drive and the cable to connect to our card is
$15.00
Bay is part# DUALCASET (although this is for straight SCSI)
DUALCASEW (is for UW - $149)
DUALCASEU2 (is for Ultra-2 - $159)
hardware is part# CBRACKET
cable is part# SC2TOC50-3 (in my case) a 3' foot cable
So for about $200.00, we can get an external enclosure with power supply
and all cabling and mounting hardware to house our 4 extra drives.
PS. I have no affilation with dirtcheapdrives, just they were the only
catalog I had that had fair prices for what I was looking for.
I'm sure other have other avenues for similar deals.

Subject: recycling old SBB drives
We have replaced our 2.1gb drives with bigger ones.
Can I use these old drives off a regular SCSI disk controller?
Or an extenal bay that I can hook to the external SCSI connector
that would hold the storage works drives.
