Many thanks to Bonnie Scott and Jean Schuller

My question is this: is it possible to kill "idle" sessions of users
that are not performing I/O or processing tasks, and if so how
do I make the distinction?
I do not want to kill cron or at jobs or large reports that may be
running in the backround.

Bonnie suggested "autologout" - Automatically logs out idle users after
a set period of inactivity. Users may now be excluded from being logged
out via a datafile.

Jean suggested "idled" - a daemon process that logs out idle terminals

These sound like the solution, thanks again!
