Hello again -
I still haven't gotten my printer working - but I have received numerous
suggestions (Thanks to all!!!) and I've tried a few of them but I still get
the same results. (Original message below.)
>From my Alpha I can: ping the printer; telnet to it; telnet back to the
Alpha - so it is on the network and I can get to it.
But, when I configure the printer and then try to print to it, lpstat -a
(still) reports the following:
yea008> lp -d lp0 /etc/hosts
Job Number is: 0
yea008> lpstat -a
lp0:
printer is on remote host 159.111.xxx.xxx with name text
queuing is enabled
printing is enabled
1 entry in spool area
Sat Oct 30 15:55:17 1999: waiting for queue to be enabled on
159.111.xxx.xxx
At this point I'm thinking it's the printer.
Thanks (again!),
Jim
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hello,
I've searched the archives and I am still perplexed!
I'm trying to print to an HP LaserJet5 - I've used the CDE setup screens to
no avail and also tried using the lprsetup command - also to no avail.
I've done this before on other systems but the printer was always on the
same sub-net as my Alpha - is this a requirement?
My subnet mask on the HP is 255.255.252.0. My alpha's IP is 203.4.xxx.xxx
and the printer's IP is 159.111.xxx.xxx.
I'm starting to feel quite stupid!
Thanks,
Jim
