Best way to rollback a Y2K box?

Have finished Y2k testing on a client site Digital 4.90d box. I have to roll back to a month or two before 2000. What is the best way of doing this?

I was thinking along the line of either rolling back the date and touching all files that are out of date or doing a full restore from a backup.

If a full restore is recommended how should it be done? The backup has been created via the user of a full filesystem dump.
