Hi,

This appears to be a puzzle to me, that I can't quite seem to be able to
sort out. (so what is new!!)

Background - we started out with a failed twin graphics card, which has been
replaced by a 2mb single graphics card that is recognised in uerf as tga.
Both jumpers on the card were set to on, ie the jumper for aliasing
(whatever that is) and the jumper to enable vga mode. We booted genvmunix
and rebuilt the kernel, and everything seemed as it should.

The other day after a reboot, xdm failed to start on the console. The
following message appeared in the file /usr/var/X11/xdm/xdm-errors -
xdm error (pid 722): error 48 binding socket address 177
Cannot load library dix: dlopen: Cannot map library libdix.so
Cannot find or open library libdix.so in path:
/usr/lib/X11:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib/X11:/usr/local/lib
Cannot load all core libraries.
Aborting.
xdm error (pid 722): server unexpectedly died
xdm error (pid 722): Server for display :0 can't be started, session
disabled

I searched for libdix and located the following
/usr/shlib/X11/libdix.so
/usr/shlib/X11/libdixie.so

This is were the libraries were on another machine that is working.

Short of reloading the operating system, I'm not sure what else can be done
at the moment.
