Compaq's SWCC not working?

Hi all.

I have played with SWCC - StorageWorks Command Console on one of our Alphas and
it did some strange and frustrating things.

MACHINE: DEC AlphaServer 4100 5/300, 512 MB RAM
DISKS: KZPSC Mylex 3chanel RAID firmware: 2.36
                  4 member RAID5
                NCR integrated SCSI
                  RRD43 CD-ROM
                  TLZ09 DAT DDS2
UNIX: Digital UNIX 4.0D
StorageWorks SWXCR Utility for Digital UNIX V1.2.2
StorageWorks RAID Array 200 Management Utility V1.1.3

So, I installed the agent on the DU and the clinet console on a WinNT. I have
installed everything regarding RA200 and basic agent. When I connect from NT to
the DU's agent, it displays NCR SCSI controller and it's devices. But when I try
to access Mylex, it just says that my "controller software is too old", not
proper version, something like that.

So, has anyone installed and tested this on Mylex?

Well, the machine was due to be deployed to our branch and we were about to
backup some files from it, when we hit another problem. The tape would work for
a while and then stop. After 10 minutes, we would get I/O error. We tried tar
and vdump. After changing 6 tapes and 3 DATs, we realized it was neither tapes
nor DAT. We fiddled about and found out that fro Single User mode it WORKS!
(this was at 7:00 pm) Guess what, SWCC was the "gremlin" in our system. That was
the only thing installed since the last verified correct DAT operation and it
did, successfully, access NCR SCSI controller. I guess I was lucky it DIDN'T
access Mylex.

So, what is the story on this SWCC?

Nix.
