Many thanks to this very responsive group! In less than an hour, I had >10
replies, all saying the same thing:

1).I needed to add the MSFS option to my kernel, config a new kernel, and
reboot to add Advfs to my installed kernel.

2). I had the domain directories manually restored as well as the links within
the domain directories to the devices.

3). I had also manually restored my /etc/fstab to include the Advfs file and
then did a mount -a and magically all the directories complete with files
intact were available!

4) Thanks to everyone for warning me to definitely not do the mkfdmn and
mkfset commands which actually would destroy the data.

Original posting:

We had a catastrophic failure on our root disk. I have a hard copy of
my /etc/fstab and my /etc/fdmns directory. I REALLY cannot lose the data that
was mounted on these file systems. I am running 4.0D and have the Advfs
filesystem utilities installed. I have manually made the directories and soft
links to the special devices because when I went to do the mkfdmn commands, it
warned me that I MAY lose the data, and I didn't want to risk that. However
when I go to do the mkfset commands I get the following error:

# /sbin/mkfset user3_domain user3
mkfset: can't create file set 'user3' in domain 'user3_domain'
mkfset: error = E_ADVFS_NOT_INSTALLED (-1108)

I have included my previous /etc/fstab and /etc/fdmns:
===============domain info===============

/etc/fdmns/root_domain:
/etc/fdmns/user3_domain:
/etc/fdmns/user4_domain:

user7_domain#user7 /user7 advfs rw 0 0
user8_domain#user8 /user8 advfs rw 0 0
usr_domain#usr /usr advfs rw 0 0

My question is how do I go about getting back my /user3 - /user8 directories
without losing their data? Thanks.
