Dear Tru64 list,
I've just installed 5.0 on the first of several machines I want to
move from 4.0E. Under 4.0E I run xdm with dxsession as the session
manager, since I don't much like CDE. When I switch the 5.0 machine
from CDE to xdm, it comes up with twm instead of mwm and no window
manager. After looking at the X startup scripts, especially
/var/X11/xdm/Xsession, it is clear that the difference from 4.0E is
that 5.0 does not come with the /usr/bin/X11/dxsession session manager.
This executable does not appear to exist anywhere on the 5.0 installation
CD. I tried using dxsession from 4.0E, and that fails. I installed the
5.0 patch kit #1, but it does not have the missing file. The dxsession
session manager is mentioned in the Xsession script and in the online
Tru64 X manual. Is there somewhere I can get this session manager to
run under 5.0? For the moment I have created my own little script as
/usr/bin/X11/dxsession, and can start mwm, put up xterms, etc., but I
would really like to have the full session manager (for example, to let
non-root users logout....). As an alternative, can I set up dtsession,
the CDE session manager, to run simple mwm without all the CDE "junk"?
Any ideas, or does everyone out there use CDE these days?
