kernel tuning.

I need some help with my kernel tuning, specifically the proc subsys. I
have a dual processor 21264 with 512 M Ram and 1 G swap, running DU 4.0 F.

When using Mathematica 4.0 (Wolfram Research) I get an error saying "out
of memory". However no other users are logged in and no other user
processes are run. also however, running the same notebook on a PC (NT
4.0) with 128 M ram does not give me the same error. the process uses
about 400 M memory (virtual and RAM) on the PC.

So i'm left with thinking that I'm running into some sort of per process
/ per user memory limit. Here are some of my current settings.

vm-maxvas= 10737418240 ( 10240 MB )
max-per-proc-address-space= 10737418240 ( 10240 MB )
max-per-proc-data-size= 10737418240 ( 10240 MB )
max-per-proc-stack-size= 67108864 (~64 MB)
per-proc-address-space= 1073741824 ( 1024 MB )
per-proc-data-size= 134217728 ( 128 MB )
per-proc-stack-size= 2097152 ( 2 MB )

i've tried increasing the max-per-proc-stack-size to 640 M, reboot and run
process again. but to no avail. any hints on what I should try next?
anyone else have a similar problem.

thanks.

-Guilherme
