I got a callback from Compaq MVHS on this.
The 6 beeps (and Compaq Error 06 on the LCD) indicates
a memory problem. Reseating the memory modules below the second cpu fixed
the error.
The firmware on a DS20 isn't stored on the cpu card as it is on some models,
apparently. The latest srm firmware revision from the 5.5 fw cd is 5.5-82
Thanks for everyone's input!

Subject: DS20 2nd cpu install problem
I have this called into Compaq Services but thought I'd float it here, as
well.
I'm installing a 2nd cpu in a DS20 and it doesn't pass POST. It displays
"FIRMWARE" on the LCD and the beep code is 6 short beeps.
I never get to an SRM prompt.
The 1st cpu is running fw rev 5.4-6 which is a beta from last spring that
was necessary to get all 4gb of ram to be recognized.
This isn't documented (of course) in the user's guide.
Any idea what it's really complaining about?
