My original query was on the difference between the DS-20 and DS-20E. I
got replies from:

Thomas Strandenaes <thomas.strandenaes_at_adm.uit.no>
Michael Huntingdon <hunting_at_ix.netcom.com>
Tom Webster <webster_at_ssdpdc.lgb.cal.boeing.com>
Matthias Dolder <matthias.dolder_at_compaq.com>
"Kuff, Hal" <Kuff_at_Tessco.Com>
John Peter Gormley <jgormley_at_grizzly.scu.edu.au>
Niels Roetert <Niels.Roetert_at_pqr.nl>
Peter Reynolds <PReynolds_at_synstar.com>
Richard Bemrose <rb237_at_phy.cam.ac.uk>

The significant differences turn out to be:

Form-factor designed for rack mounting (table-top possible as well).

The internal disk shelf is an option, and hold 4 instead of 7 drives.
There is still a little confusion in my mind as to exactly what form-factor
the drives are. They are not the old "storage works" drives, but are they
the new Compaq "universal" style? Not clear.

Same number of PCI slots. Same RAM slots. Backplane and CPU on the one
hand seem to be identical, but supposedly the 20E can take the EV-67 chip,
but the 20 can only take the EV-6. Not clear why this should be, if it's
the same backplane.

20E has a USB port. Whoopie :-)

20E comes with 2 power supplies, can take a third for redundant power.

All the disks and power supplies in the 20E are accessable from the front
of the unit, while still mounted in the rack.

We decided to go with the 20E. We've still got a few points we're not
clear on, but I guess we'll figure them out when we get the machine :-)
