SUMMARY: ROM problems

From: Nancy Davis <nedavis_at_betafo.gsfc.nasa.gov>
Date: Thu, 16 Dec 1999 09:03:24 -0500 (EST)

Original problem:

Power cycle caused the following error message to appear:

Error (ena0), Network station address ROM has a bad checksum.

Resolution:

At the firmware prompt, show config lists a device in isa slot 1
named DE200-LE. This device is not present in the machine.
(I'm not certain if this is a firmware issue or a hardware issue.)

To remove the offending device, re-initialize the ISA with:

>>>isacfg -init

To then save the changes, re-initialize the firmware

>>>init

The problem I was experiencing occured only at power cycle, though.
The device kept re-appearing. The firmware configurations were
not being saved. Time to replace the ROM chip.

Turns out this machine has other problems too....
