Thanks for the millions of you that pointed my typo! Of course I mean to use
'.' instead of ':'.
However, using the alterative method of mounting the directory works ( mount -t
nfs <remote dir>_at_<host> <local dir>).
I'd be interested in any reasonable suggestions to why this happened! I've no
idea. Is the dual syntax of this command not acceptable in v4.0d?

Again, another daft question.(sorry, I really am quite inexperienced!)
mount -t nfs 198.199.20.17:/usr/eusupp /usr/euspp
Gives the error
Can't get net Id for host.
I've added the remote box in the /etc/hosts AND created the local directory
/usr/eusupp, and the remote directory has been exported from an HPUX box
