Hello System Managers,

MUCH THANKS to the following for responding with badly
needed information and advice:

"Davis, Alan" <Davis_at_Tessco.Com>
Joe Fletcher <joe_at_meng.ucl.ac.uk>
"Luchini, Marco" <Marco.Luchini_at_acco-uk.co.uk>

Sheila Hollenbaugh <shollen_at_cs.wright.edu>

The vote was 5 to 4. Five liked the idea of using the
4.0F version with the new DS20 since our existing production
Alpha 2100 is running v4.0D. Four were less conservative
and indicated that they would probably go for version 5.0
with Patch Kit #1 running on the DS20.

Almost everyone who responded had experience with both versions.
Version 5.0 must be really nice to use, judging from the responses.
Apparently the main concern would be the big differences in
clustering, but since we don't do clustering it's not an issue
for us. From your responses I'm guessing that I could go with
the v5.0 on the DS20 and not run into any bad surprises, However,
since over 7,000 users are involved, I think I'd better go with
the more conservative group and load v4.0F on it. Later on,
when I have a chance to become familiar with 5.0, I'll upgrade.

This has really helped me out a lot. Thank you again for taking
the time to give me your insight. What a great list!!!

Subject: Should new DS20 be Tru64 v4.0f or v5.0 ???

Hello System Admins,

I've got to move everything from an AlphaServer 2100 to a
soon-to-be-ordered DS20. The 2100 is primarily an e-mail
server for about 7000 users and runs v4.0d with Enhanced
Security. It's also a secondary DNS. The new DS20 will do
all of that, and will also be a web server.

What would you do -- order the DS20 with v4.0f or v5.0
Tru64 UNIX? Is v5.0 ready for prime time? I would
really appreciate your input on this. I've got no experience
with v5.0. I'll summarize. Thanks in advance.
