Thanks for suggestions.
Mr. Marco Luchini guided me to check a former
summary containing information about timeout
parameters:
http://www.xray.mpe.mpg.de/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/1999-11/msg00089.html
And Mr. Ernest LaBonte asked me to provide printer
type and princap entry, so he could have helped me
with the configuration.
After all, it turned out that there is something wrong
with many matrix printers that we've been trying out.
Networks cards were not working properly etc. It also
turned out that it was helpful to make changes in the
flow control on the terminal server side. I don't
understand much of it - it was something about
changing X-ON/X-OFF to DTR/DSR.
As a final conclusion - this was reported to me as a
unix problem that occurred after upgrades... which it
wasn't.

The original message follows:
Hi managers,
are there any timeout parameters in DU that could
affect print jobs?
After upgrading from 3.2G to 4.0E, a couple of print
queues which print to old matrix printers are not
working properly. Longer printouts hang very often and
the printers get "hardware error". When this happens,
the printer has to be reset and the rest of the job
disappears, of course. Unix box seems to think that
the work is done because the job disappears from the
print queue, too.
This has been analyzed with a sniffer, and there's
seems to be no networking problem - the guys are
telling me that the problem is in unix box or in the
printers themselves. The printers and terminal servers
have been changed three times now... I even changed
the print queues from LAT to ip, and they still are not
working well.
I'm getting desperate here because so far I haven't got
any real suggestions or answers from Compaq, either.
Could anybody out there help me? I'd appreciate it very
much.
Regards,
Minna
