How to use interactive decevent commands

I'm trying to use the interactive decevent commands to look at thresholds.
Did this a year or so ago, but didn't document it, and now it's not working.

I'm stopping automatic analysis:

# /sbin/rc3.d/S15dia stop

and then doing:

# dia -int

and I get into it, but all commands give me errors, either:

dia> shw thr

         The optional, licensed, software to perform analysis and/or
         notification is enabled.
                :

_DIAGNOSE-FAT: Execution failed

or:

dia> shw rep
Another instance of analysis is running
_DIAGNOSE-FAT: Execution failed

But, as noted, I stopped analysis, it *shouldn't* be running! Can anyone
clue me in? This is on DU 4.0D, DecEvent 2.9, on an alphaserver 4100.
