Ok, thanks to Arrigo, jean.schuller, Stan Horwitz and John Losey:
seems that 'f you dont' need support for special hw, you can safely
go to 4.0D+p5.
Others commented that 4.0Fp2 has no problems, but the steps needed
to arrive there make it not desirable for my case (time contraints).
Last, 4.0E has been reported to have 'more bugs than a bee hive' :)
even if one machine here runs that and has no big issues.
Obviously it was mentioned upgrading Apache, thing that we'll
do just after the upgrade.
If somebody will be at work at 0500 GMT tomorrow,
he may see my screams if something goes wrong. :P
thanx again for your time,
pizzas for everyone. :)

To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient
solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
