     Folks-

I'm in the process of installing Jumbo Patch #3 to several
Compaq XP1000 machines running Digital_Unix 4.0E at patch level
JP#1. I'm concerned that patch 0451.00 may not be properly
installed. I hope that someone on this list will point me in
the right direction.

Prior to Jumbo Patch #3 a listing of /usr/shlib includes:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 1482752 Oct 1 1998 libVX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 bin bin 1400832 Oct 9 1998 libVX11.so.pre.O3D491
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root system 21 Dec 23 11:43 libX11.so_at_ -> /usr/shlib/libVX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 bin bin 1376256 Dec 12 1998 libX11.so.pre.O3D

MD5 (libVX11.so) = a7d5c5b61cf08301212abac668a380ae
MD5 (libVX11.so.pre.O3D491) = e3997874befeabd90e1da5d8563043a1
MD5 (libX11.so.pre.O3D) = 4b50d9842688cdd7611a1d015d9f97e9

A soft link is made between libX11.so and libVX11.so.

A "tar tvf" listing of the OSFPAT00045100435 patch file includes:

-rw-r--r-- 3/4 1376256 Aug 2 21:06:44 1999 ./usr/shlib/libX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 3/4 0 Aug 2 21:06:44 1999 ./usr/shlib/libX11.so.pre.O3D l
inked to ./usr/shlib/libX11.so

or after "tar xf OSFPAT00045100435" the files are:

-rw-r--r-- 2 bin bin 1376256 Aug 2 21:06 libX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 2 bin bin 1376256 Aug 2 21:06 libX11.so.pre.O3D

MD5 (libX11.so) = 4e46d27581816c0e4dbd2b09dfb48ccf
MD5 (libX11.so.pre.O3D) = 4e46d27581816c0e4dbd2b09dfb48ccf

In the patch, a hard link is made between libX11.so and libX11.so.pre.O3D
The MD5 values are the same (obviously)

After Jumbo Patch #3 a listing of /usr/shlib includes:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 1482752 Oct 1 1998 libVX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 bin bin 1400832 Oct 9 1998 libVX11.so.pre.O3D491
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Dec 23 11:43 libX11.so_at_ -> /usr/shlib/libVX11.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 1376256 Aug 2 21:06 libX11.so.pre.O3D

MD5 (libVX11.so) = a7d5c5b61cf08301212abac668a380ae
MD5 (libVX11.so.pre.O3D491) = e3997874befeabd90e1da5d8563043a1
MD5 (libX11.so.pre.O3D) = 4e46d27581816c0e4dbd2b09dfb48ccf

The soft link between libX11.so and libVX11.so still exists, and it
doesn't appear to me that either libVX11.so or libX11.so has been upgraded
by the patch. The file libX11.so.pre.O3D was upgraded by the patch.

Should I manually cp or mv libX11.so from the OSFPAT00045100435
patch file to /usr/shlib, or remove the soft link above and make a hard
link from libX11.so to libX11.so.pre.O3D??? Is libVX11.so supposed to
be upgraded to be the same as libX11.so? Am I not reading the
OSFPAT00045100435 patch file contents properly?

Thanks in advance for any help.
