"transmit FIFO underflow" message

Hi all -

Our mail server just "hiccupped", twice - not responding quickly to
network connections, or to a ping at all for a brief period.

Looking in the kern.log file, I found the following messages:

Dec 24 08:52:09 mail vmunix: tu0: transmit FIFO underflow: threshold
raised to: 512 bytes
Dec 24 08:52:12 mail vmunix: tu0: link up: negotiated 100BaseTX: full
duplex
Dec 24 08:53:53 mail vmunix: tu0: transmit FIFO underflow: threshold
raised to: 1024 bytes
Dec 24 08:53:56 mail vmunix: tu0: link up: negotiated 100BaseTX: full
duplex

Can anyone tell me what this might point to as a cause?

Thanks for your suggestions, and enjoy your Christmas/New Year break.

Richard
