Many thanks to all who responded. Everybody agreed that "machine check errors"
are hardware detected errors (in my case, memory errors). Usually these errors
occur during a memory, or a cache read (for example, a parity read error may
occur). Though these are correctable errors (with ECC memory), too many errors
can hurt overall system performance.
