We are looking at replacing our DEC Alpha 2100A and have received
quotes from several places. Quotes include an 8mm AIT Ultra2 SCSI
50/100GB tape drive. Our current machine has a DLT TZ88 Tape drive on
it which is fairly new. I asked the salesman about putting that drive
on the new machine but apparently the configurations of the two are
different enough to where it isnt possible. The current machine has a
StorageWorks shelf that everything sits in and apparently the ES40 which
we are looking at doesnt.
Question: What are the major differences between the 8mm and the DLT
drives? Are there advantages or major disadvantages for the 8mm. I
have experience with the DLT and the DAT drives but not 8mm.
Do any of you have a ES40 that uses a DLT drive? The salesman inicated
that it wasn't an option on the ES40.
thanks!
