trucluster license - pros and cons

hello all

we have an Alpha 8400 (12 processor EV6) running 4.0E UNIX which
primarily serves as file server, high performance computing, platform
for oracle databases and an assortment of web servers. It has about 1.4
TB storage on two ESA10000 cabinets. We also recently acquired a GS140
(8 processor EV6) that came with a 4 shelf storage cabinet (~1TB disk
space). I istalled 5.0A UNIX on this. There is now a desire to hook them
up as a single unit (we have the memory channel hardware). But the
trucluster license costs roughly $80000. I need to somehow justify this
expenditure. What are the pros and cons (other than added administration
and expense)?

Since I don't have previous experience with trucluster software, I would
like some guidance. After they are hooked up and software configured
does the user see it as a single 20 processor machine? Does the software
intelligently balance the load on the two nodes? What will be the output
of a command like 'top' ? In the web pages I found at compaq I don't
recall seeing anything about steps involved in hooking up two live
systems each having its own system disk (say in raid array) and OS.
Please point me to specific sites that walk you through the process.

thanks
Sridhar
