Hi there,
I am Eron Afrizal. I was browisng around Internet to find solutions for my problem and I came across your article. I am still having difficulties in solving my problem which is the telnet to a UNIX server is quite slow. I wonder why ?
The situation or the enviroment is like this. I installed an ISDN router in a Local area network which has a UNIX server. The Internet connection speed is OK because the router supports 2 BRI and also IPX protocol. But after the installation, telnet to the UNIX server which contains Financial App. becomes slow. All client PCs are running in Windows 98 Second Edition. All the computers are using private IP which is
192.168.1.1 for the Router
192.168.1.8 for the UNIX Server
192.168.1.XXX for the client pcs
But, when I telnet to the Router, it gives immediate response. When I telnet to the UNIX server I have to wait around 2 - 4 minutes to get the UNIX Login Window.
Is it because my Router does not support UNIX application but I doubt it because my router supports TCP/IP and IPX protocol. For your information, I am using the Zyxel ISDN Router P-480 2 BRI.
Another thing is that, when I plugged out the router, the telnet connection to the UNIX server becomes immediate. Is there any setting to be set in the router ?? Or is there any setting to be done in the UNIX server.
Please help me with this problem and I have no idea on how to solve it. Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you
Regards,
Eron
