How can I find out NIC's transfer speeds in OS running?

I have the following question.

When I set up XP1000 , I set 100 full duplex on (using checklist).
I could find out it with watching boot log or using " uerf ".(just
boot-log)

But I wonder if full duplex is really active in the NIC because I feel
very slow.

I can set up with "ifconfig speed ...","lan_config " ,"checklist", and
so on.
Just setting .
But I cannot find out if a current NIC clearly works as 10Mhalf-duplex ,
10Mfull-duplex ,100Mhalf-duplex
or 100Mfull-duplex .
So I would like to confirm it while the network is active.

 After reading article http://www.tru64.org/faq/tru64_faq.php3#qa36
But it shows " If you set 100mb/fdx, be sure to hard set it on the host
AND switch/hub "

Is there really no way except above one ?

My Enviroment ...
    OS : Tru64 5.0 A (Rev1093)
    Model : XP1000

Thanks
