I would like to thank all the people who responded to my ADVFSD question.

ORIGINAL QUESTION:
The ADVFSD process on our Alphaserver 1000a/400, Unix 4.0D, once in a while
(every 30 - 60 days), will get "crazy" and start grabbing 60 to 80% of the
CPU. The ADVFS GUI still works, but this slows downs our system enough to
cause time-out problems on our time sensitive applications. To get around
the problem we kill and restart the process.
Has anyone seen this before, and if so what is causing the process to do
this?

ANSWERS:
It seems that this problem could be fixed by installing the patches for ver.
4.0D. or upgrading to a higher Unix version. My options are as follows:
1) stop the ADVFSD when not using the GUI.
2) investigate further which patches would solve the problem, and install
them.

I have chosen the easy route: Stop ADVFSD when not using the GUI. (We are
upgrading to 4.0E in the very near future.)

Thanks again!
