Hi,

I've got a couple of answers from you all (Felix Maurer, Richard Starzak,
Roberto Mackun, Werner Wost and Alex Harkema) and extracted the following
result out of it:

There are some known issues with "mt -f /dev/<tapedr> erase", better use
"scu -f /dev/<tapedr> mt erase".

In answer to Alex: This may be also the solution under Tru64 v5.1 where the
mt erase function is not available anymore?

Thank you all for helping me!
Kind regards, Luitzen van Gorkum
