Dear friends,
following my mail having the following subjects:
gzip & gunzip not always returning original data (Jan 18)
undetected data corruption reading 600Mb files (Jan 30)
I'm glad to announce that the problem was due to a missing small and
cheap piece of iron called H8863-AA. It is a simple VHDCI terminator.
The hardware configuration was wrong since the trilink connector located
in the HSZ80 was NOT terminated.

If you think that its almost one year my users (who are scientists)
produce Gbs and Gbs of binary data (world-wide temperature, pressure,
humidity... ) you can image how much they have been disappointed to know
the missing terminator made their data somehow random for all that time!
But we have been lucky since among all their data the random noise due to
the missing terminator has been maskerade by the numerical "noise" and,
up to few days ago, they did'nt notice anything wrong.
Only one user noticed that gunzippig his data he got errors and the resulting
data was not the same as the original gunzipped data.
The strange thing is that even with all the newest software (T64 v5.1
2nd patch) and tools (ca V3.1 Service Pak 1) no warning of any kind was
issued to alert that something was going wrong.
Anyway thanks a lot to everybody who helped me in locating the error:
