THE ORIGINAL QUESTION WAS:
Does anyone know if compaq sells the blue cases for
the UltraSCSI SBB Storageworks disk drives (Just the
blue drive carrier without the drive).. if not is
there any other place that may sell these, maybe an
aftermarket company? I have a bunch of ultrawide SCA
drives but just need these carriers so i can use them
in the ba356 ultrascsi shelf.
THE ANSWER IS AS FOLLOWS (Thanks to Kurt Ludwig):
Obviously, this is not supported by compaq and would
void any warranty but anyway:
In this case, I was looking particularly for the drive
carrier to accommodate SCA drives (ultrawide). The
blue carrier, by itself, is not sold by compaq to
customers. What is sold, though, is the backplane
connector for SCA drives (the connector that fits
between the drive and the carrier. It is a bit pricey
($77.00 each) but anyway... Its pretty easy to find
the older type Storageworks drive-containers and this
backplane connector will enable you to use supported
SCA drives with that drive-container on the
Blue-UltraScsi BA356 shelf. I happen to have a few of
the narrow drive-container (blue) so all I need is the
wide SCA backplane connector so this is perfect for
me.
The other option is to find the drive-carriers from
used vendors, which are hard to find because these
drives generally are still under warranty.
