Thanks to the many people who replied.

it is COLLECT.

I've always run collect on my 4.0F systems, 'cos it's so damned useful !

Oh well, that's progress for you.....

Thanks to all who replied.
Dunno what the answer is yet. The problem only happens when BOTH members of
the cluster are up.!!

Subject: vdump of /usr hangs
All,
We are running Tru64 5.1 Cluster on 2 GS160s.
When I vdump /usr it hangs. / (root) and /var ok, but /usr hangs after a
while.
Output as follows :
# vdump -0Cuf /gfdev-usr-backup/cluster-usr.dmp /usr
path : /usr
dev/fset : cluster_usr#usr
type : advfs
advfs id : 0x3a71880a.000a9308.1
vdump: Date of last level 0 dump: the start of the epoch
vdump: Dumping directories
vdump: Dumping 1372056574 bytes, 1715 directories, 35885 files
vdump: Dumping regular files
(this is when it stops).
It has worked before. I can't kill the process, or fuser -k the
filesystem.......
