We're looking for a Tru64/NT admin, i.e., a Tru64 admin with some NT experience or an NT admin with Tru64 experience. This is a mission critical position. This person and I will be responsible for the computers (4xGS160, 2xES40, associated NT boxes and peripherals) that will be controlling the power grid for the state of Texas. High stress, but IMHO, very cool. The position will be located at the Austin failover site, with some travel necessary to the primary site in the nearby thriving metropolis of Taylor (~25 miles away). Here are the details: Position Title: Compaq Tru64 UNIX/NT System Administrator General Overview of the Position: Support all levels of Tru64 and NT administration Administer the technical environment in support of the In-Scope Applications (event-driven, real-time) Software and hardware maintenance Systems planning Performance monitoring and turning Interfaces and reporting architectures System security Backup management Troubleshooting and problem determination Scripting Account and directory maintenance Functional Responsibilities: Maintain servers, external disk, and tape management systems Upgrade operating system Install patches/fixes provided by vendor Assist in supporting portal, web servers, external disk, and tape management systems Keep servers available to user communities through proactive management Coordinate services with all supporting organizations and 3rd parties Review all scope change requests for impact to the environment Load testing Capacity planning and hardware selection Disaster recovery planning Monitor and report site availability and performance Professional Responsibilities: Develop and sustain a high level understanding of the competitive energy markets Increase and maintain proficiency as an "Industry Expert" on TRU64 technology, methodologies, and concepts as appropriate (will cross-train with AIX and HP-UX) Establish strong working relationships with key staff members in ERCOT departments Facilitate communications throughout the ERCOT Develop and maintain a high level of computer skills in Tru64 UNIX and WinNT/Win2000 Communicate clearly complex technical concepts both in a written and an oral manner Experience and Educational Requirements Bachelors' degree in Computer Science is preferred Minimum three years of systems support experience Any combination of experience and training which provides the preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acceptable Must have good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to set priorities, plan/organize, and carry out installations and user support in an efficient manner Capable of lifting 50 pounds Minimum 2 years strong Unix and Windows NT administration experience, to include Tru64 Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing, including TCP/IP services, TruCluster, LAN/WAN routing, VPN, and network topology Server development experience Distributed systems experience Shell scripting or programming experience Team attitude and strong communication skills necessary Come work with me...
