I asked a question regarding the best way to change from LSM based
mirroring to controller based as part of an operating system upgrade (to
v5.1). Thanks to Larry Clegg, alan at nabeth.cxo.dec.com and Ed Branley
for their very helpful response.
The consensus was that the best way was to vdump the entire system,
rearrange the disk and controllers, do a fresh install of 5.1, and restore
the data. There are several reasons for doing it this way, the most
compelling is that creating the mirrorsets will destroy the data anyway,
so there really isn't any other way. By doing a fresh install of v5.1,
you also have the advantage of being able to utilise AdvFS v4, which has
many improvements. Alan also noted that running a pair of HSZ controllers
non-redundantly isn't a supported configuration, which gives us another
reason to change things sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the help,
Andrew
