Route problem

Ok...I've got 3 ES40 machines...one running 4.0F and two running 5.0A. All three of them seem to have a similar problem. They all have a bunch of routes in their routing tables...and these routes are all setup to be added in the /etc/inet.local file--all but the default route, which is in the /etc/routes file. When the machines are rebooted, they loose most of their routes. The 5.0A machines even loose their default route--so then I have a LOT of people calling me and telling me they can't get into the machine--so I have to add the routes by hand--very very annoying. I did notice when the 4.0F machine boots up, it says that most of the networks are "unreachable", but to me that doesn't make sense because when I add them later by hand, they work just fine. Any help would be great...at least a shove in the right direction...thank you in advance...
