Setting up a RAID set (suggestions)

Hi.

I'm about to convert an Alpha 1000A 4/233 from Windows NT to Digital Unix.
It has a Mylex DAC960/Digital 3 channel/7 target SWXCR, with 5 RZ29B (4gig)
disk drives installed. I was never involved with it as an NT system and the
people who were are long gone. The drives look to be configured as 1 logical
RAID 5 set, with 16 gigabytes of space. Channel 0 has 2 drives installed, one
containing NT and I believe the other must be a parity disk. Channel 1 has the
other 3 drives combined to make a 12 gigabyte user area.

I have no RAID experience and am looking for suggestions on how I might best
configure it for Digital-Unix.

I think I've read in the past that it is a good idea to keep the OS logically
separate from the rest of the system. Do I recall correctly?

Also, I only need 1 disk for Digital-Unix and 2 for user files. That leaves
me with 2, of which 1 would be the parity disk. I guess the other could be
a hot spare. Does this seem like a good plan?

I'm plannig on installing Digital-Unix V4.0G. I assume when I install the OS,
all essential software needed for RAID will get installed as well. Is there
other software that should be installed too?

Thanks for any help.
Ernie
