Thanks to all the responses from around the world:-) We currently use xv however I was
looking to see what others are popular. The big hitters were xgrab and xv. There were also
many compliments on the Imagemagik software. One should also check out gimp.

Thanks for all the good input

xgrab (X graph broswer):

Xgrab reads a textual specification of a graph, lays out the graph using heuristics to
minimize the number of edge crossings, and displays the graph as labeled nodes and edges in
an X window. The user can then edit the graph output a postscript file or a text file
describing the resulting graph.

NOTE: In order to make xgrab run, you will also need version 2.6 of Mark Linton's Interviews
software. You will also need the latest release of the GNU C++ compiler "g++".

xv:

The xv program displays images in the GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PBM, PGM, PPM, X11 bitmap, Utah
Raster Toolkit RLE, PDS/VICAR, Sun Rasterfile, BMP, PCX, IRIS RGB, XPM, Targa, XWD, possibly
PostScript, and PM formats on workstations and terminals running the X Window System,
Version 11

Imagemagik:

A collection of tools and libraries to read, write, and manipulate an image in over 68 major
formats. Image processing operations are available from the command line, as well as through
C, C++, and PERL-based programming interfaces.

xwd:

Distributed with the OS, dumps an image of an X window. You may then use something like xv
to manipulate and save the image in various formats.

gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program)

Freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image
composition and image authoring.

VNC:

Virtual Network Computing. A remote display system which allows you to view a computing
'desktop' environment not from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine
architectures. The intent is to use a PC for the alt-Printscreen.
